About The Position

This position is for a Sessional Lecturer to teach RLG373H1F: Buddhist Ritual. The course introduces and analyzes various forms of Buddhist ritual, including daily worship, alms rounds, life-crisis celebrations, healing rituals, meditation, festivals, pilgrimage, consecration of artifacts, and ancestor care. The course utilizes liturgical manuals, ethnographic descriptions, and audiovisual records to discuss ritual as both text and event. The class is scheduled for Wednesdays from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM and will be held in-person. The appointment dates are from September 1, 2026, to December 31, 2026.

Requirements

  • PhD in Religion or a related field
  • Ability to address the themes of the course to which the application is being made

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated teaching experience as a teaching assistant or course instructor in Buddhism
  • Extensive knowledge of the subject area is highly desirable, with particular focus on ritual and material studies

Responsibilities

  • Develop a detailed syllabus and curriculum for the course
  • Presenting weekly lectures and classes as appropriate
  • Evaluate student performance
  • Grading papers and exams
  • Hold office hours and meet with students as they request
  • Handling other pedagogical and administrative tasks ordinarily associated with an undergraduate course
