About The Position
This position is for a Sessional Lecturer to teach MAT387H5F LEC0101, a Topics in Mathematics course at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM). The course focuses on a topic of current interest in mathematics, such as acoustics, and its content may vary annually. The course is restricted to students enrolled in the Mathematical Sciences Minor program. The estimated enrollment is 80 students, and there is one position available with 45 hours of TA support per tutorial per semester. The appointment dates are from September 1, 2026, to December 31, 2026. The salary will be based on CUPE minimum salary rates for a full course (FCE), inclusive of vacation pay, with specific rates listed for Sessional Lecturer I, I Long Term, II, II Long Term, III, and III Long Term. The collective agreement rates will prevail if they differ from the posting.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Mathematics or a related field, completed or nearly complete.
- Advanced comprehension of the subject matter as evidenced by research activity and/or advanced teaching experience.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.

Responsibilities
- Planning the lectures, tutorials, assignments, and tests.
- Developing marking schemes.
- Providing appropriate contact time outside of class to students through office hours, emails, etc.
- Invigilating the final exam.
- Managing the grades and submitting the final course grades.
- Dealing with student petitions.
- Setting and grading a make-up exam if required.
