About The Position

The Buddhism, Psychology and Mental Health Program at New College seeks a sessional lecturer for the course BPM332H1S – Buddhism and Psychotherapy. This course offers a multi-cultural and interdisciplinary study of therapeutically-oriented practices and theories of the mind. Areas considered include positive psychology, psychoanalysis, cognitive-behavioural therapy, mindfulness meditation, and Jungian psychology, with comparison to various Buddhist teachings and practices. The course is estimated to have an enrolment of 100 students and will have approximately 165 hours of TA support. The lecture is scheduled for Mondays from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The course will be delivered in-person, but delivery may change based on faculty or department decisions.

Requirements

  • Completed or nearly completed Ph.D. with a scholarly background in an area related to Buddhist Studies, Mindfulness, and/or the intersections between Buddhism and Psychology and/or philosophical theories of mind.
  • Teaching experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching in a university setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content
  • Development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams
  • Calculation and submission of grades
  • Holding regular office hours
