About The Position

This course, URD212Y5Y Introduction to Urdu, is designed for students with no prior knowledge of the Urdu language. The curriculum focuses on developing literacy skills, including reading and writing. Students will learn the alphabet, letter connections, basic vocabulary, and grammar to express simple ideas and conduct basic conversations. The estimated enrollment is 40 students, with no estimated TA support. The mode of instruction is expected to be in-person, with Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm as the class schedule. The appointment dates are from September 1, 2026, to April 30, 2027.

Requirements

  • Applicants must hold a graduate-level degree in Urdu language pedagogy, literature, linguistics, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching university-level Urdu language courses is required.
  • Native, or near-native, Urdu language fluency is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching this course, or a similar course at the university level, is preferred.
  • Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II and Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12.

Responsibilities

  • All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a University credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content
  • Out-of-class interactions with students via e-mail and office hours
  • Development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams
  • Calculation and submission of grades
  • Order all necessary readings
