About The Position

The Department of Arts, Culture and Media at the University of Toronto Scarborough is seeking a Sessional Lecturer for the Fall 2026 academic session to teach VPSB74H3F Observational Drawing. This course will introduce students to the concepts, techniques, and media of contemporary observational drawing, using representational drawing as a basis for developing personal and imaginative expression. Topics will include still life, portraiture, and figure drawing, focusing on drawing what students see with various mark-making techniques and design elements. The course will also provide a critical perspective on representation through readings and lectures.

Requirements

  • Teaching experience at the university level
  • Expertise in teaching observational drawing techniques utilizing methods ranging from drawing with live models, portraiture, and still life
  • Experience with pedagogy that links fundamental drawing approaches to more experimental contemporary drawing practice
  • A comprehensive knowledge of contemporary and conceptual art practices as it relates to observational drawing
  • An active practice with observational drawing as the primary part of that practice
  • An exhibition history involving drawing from observation via the still-life, portraiture or figuration in a range of contexts

Responsibilities

  • All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content
  • Participation in Studio’s exhibitions and guest lecture opportunities on campus
  • Development, administration and marking of assignments and final portfolios
  • Calculation and submission of grades
  • Holding regular office hours
  • Applicant to work closely with permanent faculty
