About The Position

The Department of Arts, Culture and Media at the University of Toronto Scarborough is seeking a Sessional Lecturer for the VPSB02H3F Image Culture course for the Fall 2026 academic session. This lecture course explores how artists create images in a digital age, examining how pictures can shape social understanding and influence culture. It will delve into contemporary artmaking, decentering and decolonizing the image, authorship, representation, truth, and the gaze. The course will also analyze visual technologies, distribution formats, and picture-making techniques to understand artists' responses to the evolving visible world.

Requirements

  • Teaching experience at the university level including lecture format classes
  • Expertise in the history of modern and contemporary art with a specific focus on visual and digital technologies
  • Candidates with training in art history, curatorial practice, or art practice will be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • A background as an active professional artist with practical knowledge and experience with art production will be considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content
  • Participation in Studio’s exhibitions and guest lecture opportunities on campus
  • Development, administration and marking of assignments and final portfolios
  • Calculation and submission of grades
  • Holding regular office hours
  • Applicant to work closely with permanent faculty
  • Completion of any course grading not finished by December 31, 2026 for F courses.
