About The Position

The Department of Arts, Culture and Media at the University of Toronto Scarborough is seeking a Sessional Lecturer for the THRA10H3F Introduction to Theatre course for the Fall 2026 academic session. This course offers a general introduction to theatre as a social institution and collaborative performing art. Through lectures, discussions, class exercises, and excursions, students will explore the motivations behind theatre creation and gain an orientation to the four areas of focus within the Theatre and Performance program's curriculum. The appointment dates are from September 1 to December 31, 2026, with duties including course preparation, delivery, assignment management, grading, and holding office hours. The estimated enrollment is 150 students, with 270 estimated TA hours.

Requirements

  • PhD in theatre or a related discipline
  • Strong prior knowledge of theatre practices
  • Past experience in professional theatre
  • At least 1 year's prior experience either as an instructor of a university-based theatre class or as an instructor of a studio-based theatre class
