About The Position

This position is for a Sessional Lecturer to teach the practical sessions for PHY131H1S, Introduction to Physics I. This is a first university physics course primarily for students not intending to pursue a Specialist or Major program in Physical or Mathematical Sciences. Topics include: classical kinematics & dynamics, momentum, energy, force, friction, work, power, angular momentum, oscillations, waves, sound. The course delivery is currently planned to be in-person, but may change. The appointment dates are from January 1, 2027, to April 30, 2027.

Requirements

  • PhD in Physics required
  • Previous experience in teaching introductory laboratory physics at the University level required

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience and demonstrated ability in teaching a similar course

Responsibilities

  • The preparation and delivery of course content (practicals)
  • Supervision and training of teaching assistant(s) assigned to course, including overseeing the TAs DDAH forms
  • Meeting regularly with the TAs ensuring the labs are run smoothly
  • Working in collaboration with the teaching team throughout the semester to make sure the labs and course content are delivered smoothly
  • Submission of final Practicals grades
