About The Position

The Department of Arts, Culture and Media at the University of Toronto Scarborough is seeking a Sessional Lecturer for the MUZB01H3F Introduction to Community Music course for the Fall 2026 academic session. This course examines music within communities, exploring how it functions differently from formal models, blurs boundaries between amateur and professional roles, and emphasizes shared involvement. Students will analyze various community music practices and current research in this evolving field, drawing upon their own experiences. The appointment period is from September 1 to December 31, 2026, with duties including course design, preparation, delivery, assignment development, administration, marking, and holding office hours. The estimated enrollment is 30 students, with 0 estimated TA hours. This position is posted in accordance with the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement and is tentative pending final course determinations and enrolments.

Requirements

  • A graduate degree (ABD accepted) in community music or a related field required.
  • Experience working as a community music practitioner or arts educator required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience facilitating music making in social change contexts is highly desirable.
