About The Position

The University of Toronto Faculty of Information is seeking a Sessional Lecturer for the Fall Term 2026 (September – December) to teach INF2311H - Managing Audiovisual Materials. This course provides an introduction to audiovisual documents (photographs, sound recordings, moving images), covering their history, physical makeup, creation stages, appraisal, acquisition, arrangement, description, and preservation. It also includes introductions to copyright, licensing, and distribution. The course emphasizes the research importance of AV documents and their consideration in archival and library management. Students will gain theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience assessing an AV archival collection. This course can fulfill the “Managerial” Professional Requirement for second-year students. Formerly INF2308H Special Topics, with no change in content. The estimated course enrollment is 50. TA support is estimated at 75 hours for enrollments of 36 or greater, with allocation based on enrollment numbers. The class schedule is to be determined. The lecturer must be located in geographical proximity to the University premises to perform duties on-site.

Requirements

  • Completed, or nearly completed, PhD degree in an area related to the course OR a Master’s degree plus extensive professional experience in an area related to the course
  • Teaching experience is preferred
  • Must be located in geographical proximity to the applicable University premises in order to attend and perform duties on University premises as of the Starting Date.
