About The Position

This course explores the complexity of schools and their place in the community, addressing practical issues such as lesson planning, unit planning, classroom management, and the class as a community. It offers a practical and conceptual introduction to teaching, introducing student teachers to philosophies, methods, and materials relevant to the profession. The course provides opportunities to understand the process of becoming a teacher, gain insight into the role of ethics in research, and develop skills and attitudes for thoughtful and reflective practice, fostering a foundation for continuing professional growth. This course is typically open only to students in the Teaching program. It is part of a pairing of courses taught by the same instructor at a new school site in the TDSB, alongside the CTL 7006H 0181 Educational Research 1 course. As part of curriculum renewal and MT program development, this course pairing will pilot the infusion of teacher well-being, mental health, and agency within the context of establishing a new school-university partnership. The successful applicant must have extensive experience working with school leaders, knowledge and experience supporting the intersection of educational research and professional learning in school-based contexts, and experience in the development of teachers as leaders. This course is taught on-site at an MT-TDSB school partner site.

Requirements

  • Possess a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline
  • Demonstrate currency and mastery in designing for school learning communities and in the course subject matter
  • Demonstrate currency and mastery in teacher well-being, mental health, and responses to teacher stresses and burnout
  • Have classroom teaching and school leadership experience
  • Have extensive experience working with school leaders and supporting the development of teachers as agentic and collaborative leaders
  • Demonstrate skills related to building community and program development involving a range of stakeholders (including school educators, OISE participants and administration, and community partners)
  • Demonstrate deep knowledge and experience in contexts, policies, and practices of the division (Primary/Junior K-Gr. 6, Junior/Intermediate Gr. 4-10, Intermediate/Senior Gr. 7-12)
  • Demonstrate excellence in teaching, including online teaching as relevant
  • Demonstrate evidence of knowledge and practice of principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Demonstrate excellence in teaching and leading teachers/teacher-candidates professional learning
  • Possess an Ontario Teaching certificate with OCT qualifications in the relevant division
