This course explores the complexity of schools and their place in the community, addressing practical issues such as lesson planning, unit planning, classroom management, and the class as a community. It offers a practical and conceptual introduction to teaching, introducing student teachers to philosophies, methods, and materials relevant to the profession. The course provides opportunities to understand the process of becoming a teacher, gain insight into the role of ethics in research, and develop skills and attitudes for thoughtful and reflective practice, fostering a foundation for continuing professional growth. This course is typically open only to students in the Teaching program. It is part of a pairing of courses taught by the same instructor at a new school site in the TDSB, alongside the CTL 7006H 0181 Educational Research 1 course. As part of curriculum renewal and MT program development, this course pairing will pilot the infusion of teacher well-being, mental health, and agency within the context of establishing a new school-university partnership. The successful applicant must have extensive experience working with school leaders, knowledge and experience supporting the intersection of educational research and professional learning in school-based contexts, and experience in the development of teachers as leaders. This course is taught on-site at an MT-TDSB school partner site.
