About The Position

This position involves the advanced treatment of cognitive science topics for arts majors. Possible topics include: concepts, consciousness, the mind-body problem, and cognitive science and the arts. The course is COG401H1F – Seminar in Cognitive Science. The estimated course enrollment is 40 students, with no estimated teaching assistant support. The class schedule is Wednesdays from 1pm – 4pm. The delivery method is currently in-person but may change based on public health advisories. The appointment dates are from September 1, 2026, to December 31, 2026 (Fall semester).

Requirements

  • A Master’s degree in Cognitive Science or a related field (e.g., Linguistics, Psychology, Philosophy, Computer Science) is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Ph.D. preferred.
  • Experience teaching in a university environment preferred.
  • Relevant background in Cognitive Science required.
  • Previous experience in developing and delivering curriculum for university students.
  • Experience in teaching research methods and/or with experiential learning activities or service learning would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content.
  • Development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams.
  • Calculation and submission of grades.
  • Holding regular office hours.
  • Supervising the TA (if applicable).
  • Preparing and supervising tests and exams.
