About The Position

The African Studies Centre seeks a Sessional Lecturer from September 1, 2026 – December 31, 2026 to teach the first half of a full year course in the fall semester: AFR351Y – African Systems of Thought. This course explores a range of African cosmologies, epistemologies, and theologies, as well as specific case studies on justice, the moral order, and gender relations. The influence of these richly diverse traditions is traced as well in the writings of African thinkers in the Diaspora. The estimated enrolment is 35 students, and there will be no TA support. The class schedule is Wednesdays, 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. This course will be taught in-person.

Requirements

  • Completed Ph.D. in African Studies, Education, African Indigenous Studies, Philosophy, or Decolonial Studies and related disciplines
  • A scholarly background in African Studies and relevant areas
  • Teaching experience

Responsibilities

  • Normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content
  • Development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams
