About The Position

This course, SOC373H5F: The Social Life of Money and Markets, explores fundamental sociological questions about economic phenomena. It investigates how the value of items is determined, what financial crises reveal about social life, and how financial traders make decisions. The course emphasizes that economic questions and facts are inherently sociological, focusing on how economic transactions create, legitimize, and transform social relations. It highlights the need to understand economic behavior within its social context and examines how economic principles influence aspects of social life that may seem resistant to or outside of the economic realm.

Requirements

  • PhD in Sociology or equivalent as demonstrated by refereed/published research
  • Strong academic record
  • Previous experience teaching a similar course
  • Evidence of teaching excellence in the subject covered in the course

Responsibilities

  • Preparation and delivery of course content
  • Development, administration, and marking of assignments, tests, and exams
  • Calculation and submission of grades
  • Holding regular office hours
  • Supervising TAs assigned to the course
  • Ordering all necessary readings
