About The Position

This position is for a Sessional Instructional Assistant for the course RLG101H5F - Introduction to the Study of Religion. The course explores theories about the variety and nature of religious experience, both personal and collective. It examines how religious life is expressed through forms such as myth, narrative, ritual, systems of belief and value, morality, and social institutions. The estimated course enrollment is 350 students, with an estimated TA support of 725 hours. The class schedule is Mondays from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and the hours of work for this position are Thursdays from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. The sessional dates of appointment are from September 1, 2026, to December 31, 2026.

Requirements

  • Completed PhD or equivalent (for non-U. of T. graduate students)
  • Major field in the relevant topic area
  • Demonstrated effectiveness as a teaching assistant
  • Academic qualifications in the subject
  • Ability to introduce students to a diverse range of approaches
  • Suitability for the position

  • Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12 of the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 collective agreement.
