About The Position

This position is for a Sessional Instructional Assistant for the course FAH101H1F, Monuments of Art History. This course is an introduction to the arts and architecture from antiquity to the present day, emphasizing the connection between art and history. It provides a broad overview of selected works, including real objects and buildings in Toronto, and focuses on developing essential art historical skills such as looking at, analyzing, and writing about art and architecture. Tutorials will offer training and experience in applying basic art-historical scholarship principles and vocabulary. The role involves frequent short writing assignments and exercises based on readings, lectures, and museum/gallery visits.

Requirements

  • Completed Master's Degree in Art History, with historical and geographical breadth of knowledge as relevant to the course material
  • Previous TA experience
  • Teaching, writing, and communication skills in the history of art
  • At least two years of experience creating and marking undergraduate writing assignments, exercises, and/or undergraduate essays in art history

Nice To Haves

  • Completed or in-progress PhD in Art History
  • Previous experience as a TA in this or a related course in the Department of Art History at the University of Toronto

Responsibilities

  • Attending weekly lectures (online asynchronous)
  • Leading two tutorial sections (in-person on Thursdays, times TBD)
  • Collaborating on the design of tutorial material
  • Grading, tabulating, and tracking grades
  • Invigilating tests and exams
  • Holding office hours for regular meetings with students
  • Full duties to be determined by course instructor
