About The Position

This course focuses on the analysis and interpretation of biological evidence in a forensic context. Students will gain knowledge in the theory and operation of forensically relevant biological and instrumental techniques used for the analysis of evidentiary items, including DNA, bodily fluids, hair, etc. Students will also develop skills relating to the interpretation, limitation, and implications of analytical results in a forensic context. The session runs from September 1, 2026, to December 31, 2026. Lectures are held on Wednesdays from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, and practical sessions are on Mondays from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, both in-person. The estimated course enrollment is 48 students, with an estimated TA support of 140 hours per two practical sections. The salary rate is $55.25 per hour, subject to collective agreement rates.

Requirements

  • Masters in Biology (completed, or closely related field) or a Bachelor's of Science with 5+ years of experience in forensic biology lab practices
  • Professional designation and/or forensic laboratory experience is required
  • Demonstrated excellence in course subject matter
  • Experience in molecular biology methods and Forensic DNA profiling
  • Experience in two or more of the following: Laboratory Analysis of Forensic Biological Evidence and crime scene investigation; Forensic Serology & Basic Serology techniques, DNA extraction methods; DNA quantitation methods; PCR; SNP genotyping (Real Time PCR and Luminex); STR genotyping using capillary sequencer, and primer design
