About The Position

WeldFit has been a leading manufacturer of pipeline and oilfield products for over 50 years, providing critical solutions such as hot tapping, line stopping, and automated pigging systems to the oil and gas, refining, petrochemical, and industrial markets. Headquartered in Houston with a global footprint, WeldFit is committed to safety, quality, innovation, and operational excellence throughout its manufacturing and service operations. The Service Technical Writer is responsible for developing, documenting, maintaining, and continuously improving standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, technical manuals, service documentation, and general business process documentation that support WeldFit's manufacturing, field service, and corporate operations. This role works closely with Operations, Service, Engineering, Quality, Safety, Human Resources, Training and Management teams to transform complex workflows into clear, accurate, and user-friendly documentation. The ideal candidate is an organized, detail-oriented professional with strong technical writing skills and the ability to gather information from subject matter experts, shop personnel, field technicians, and business leaders. This is a full-time onsite position based in Houston, Texas, working Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of technical writing, procedure writing, business process documentation, or related experience.
• Experience working in a manufacturing, industrial, engineering, fabrication, oil and gas, or field service environment strongly preferred.
• Experience creating standard operating procedures and controlled documentation.
• Experience supporting quality management systems is preferred.
• Exceptional written communication and technical writing skills.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to interview subject matter experts and gather technical information effectively.
• Strong process-mapping and workflow documentation capabilities.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
• Experience using document management and document control systems preferred.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively across all levels of the organization.
• Strong grammar, editing, proofreading, and document formatting skills.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, Business Administration, Communications, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, or a related field preferred.
• Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Develop, write, edit, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, policies, forms, checklists, and technical documentation.
• Create documentation supporting manufacturing, quality, service, engineering, safety, and general business operations.
• Develop process maps, flowcharts, training materials, and visual aids to support operational excellence.
• Translate complex technical and operational concepts into easy-to-understand documentation for employees at all levels.
• Ensure all documentation is standardized, accurate, and aligned with company objectives.
• Collaborate with department leaders and subject matter experts to document current-state processes and identify improvement opportunities.
• Observe manufacturing and service operations to accurately capture workflows and procedures.
• Review existing documentation and recommend revisions to improve efficiency, clarity, and compliance.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives through process standardization and knowledge management.
• Manage document revisions, approvals, and version control processes.
• Maintain organized document repositories and ensure employees have access to current approved documentation.
• Support quality management systems, including ISO-related documentation requirements.
• Ensure documentation complies with applicable safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
• Assist during audits by providing documented procedures and supporting records.
• Develop training materials, onboarding guides, job aids, and departmental reference manuals.
• Support departmental training initiatives through effective documentation and instructional content.
• Conduct interviews and information-gathering sessions with stakeholders to capture process knowledge.
• Facilitate communication between departments to ensure documentation reflects actual operational practices.
• Partner with Operations, Engineering, Service, Quality, Safety, and Human Resources teams to identify documentation needs.
• Serve as a resource for process documentation and best practices throughout the organization.
• Participate in cross-functional projects that require procedure development and process standardization.
• Support special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
