About The Position

The Service Leadership Work Study Program (SLWS) is a community engagement program that provides students with an on-campus employment opportunity where they work with local community organizations. By working closely with local community organizations, students in the program get a sustained opportunity to engage with local issues while also interacting with a broad range of community members. The program also provides a peer learning community that supplements the work done by the students at their various work-sites and that provides opportunities for shared learning and collaboration. The positions in the program, which fall under the Student Union contract and pay the standard campus wage, can also fulfill federal work-study requirements. This position, which is for 5 hours per week, will support the Grinnell Area Arts Council.

Requirements

Availability for Studio 6 between 3:00-5:15 pm Tuesdays, Wednesdays and/or Thursdays; other duties, such as admin duties, have more flexible hours.
Interest in and experience in the arts; formal training not necessary
Interest in arts education, administration and community engagement
Familiarity and comfort with technology, including varied software and social media
Flexibility, attention to detail, and self-motivation
Completion of Grinnell College's Working with Minors certification
Provide a letter of interest and resume addressed to Monica St. Angelo, Executive Director of the Grinnell Area Arts Council.

Responsibilities

Assist lead teachers with afterschool visual art program for grades K-6; help manage classroom; support students as they complete assigned projects; assist with room organization and cleanup.
Assist lead teacher in other arts education classes; help manage classroom; support students as they complete assigned projects; assist with room organization and cleanup.
May assist with gallery and/or reception setup, ticket and gallery sales; building decor (e.g. Haunted House decorating).
May include digital PR, poster hanging, website and database updating, fundraising and grant-writing assistance, and organizational tasks like filing.
