About The Position

Future Buildings and Toro Steel Buildings are seeking an experienced SEO Specialist to manage and grow organic search across both brands. This role involves overseeing two separate WordPress sites, ensuring consistent SEO quality and strategic coherence while respecting each brand's distinct voice. The position is a 12-month maternity leave contract, full-time, and based in-office in Markham, ON. The company designs, manufactures, and delivers prefabricated steel buildings for agricultural, commercial, and industrial use across North America and beyond. The opportunity includes taking ownership of the organic search strategy, focusing on technical health, on-page optimization, content strategy, and authority building. A significant immediate project involves migrating both sites to an optimized WordPress setup, requiring expertise in clean migrations without losing rankings or traffic. The role also offers the chance to explore and grow the company's presence in AI-driven search surfaces like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google's AI Overviews, making this a dynamic and forward-looking position.

Requirements

  • 3–5+ years of hands-on SEO experience with measurable ranking wins in competitive verticals
  • Strong technical SEO foundation: schema markup, Core Web Vitals, crawl management, redirect strategy
  • Hands-on experience with Rank Math Pro, configuration, schema, bulk editing, redirection module, sitemaps
  • Experience managing WordPress SEO at a technical level, including site migrations without traffic loss
  • Proven experience managing SEO across multiple sites or brands simultaneously
  • Proficiency with Google Search Console, GA4, SEMrush or Ahrefs, and rank tracking tools
  • Strong organizational skills, able to manage competing priorities across two active brands

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with AI search surfaces (AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity) and what influences content visibility there
  • Experience using AI tools to speed up SEO tasks, content drafting, metadata generation, bulk rewrites
  • Background in construction, manufacturing, real estate, or other high-consideration industries
  • WordPress performance optimization experience: caching, image compression, plugin management, hosting
  • Experience with E-E-A-T content strategies following Google's Helpful Content updates
  • Scripting or automation skills (Python, Google Sheets macros, Make/Zapier) for SEO workflows

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough technical audits across both sites: Core Web Vitals, crawlability, indexation, mobile performance, and structured data.
  • Work with web developers to implement fixes, prioritizing high-impact items first.
  • Monitor Google Search Console for both sites; address coverage issues and manage crawl budget effectively.
  • Stay current on Google algorithm updates (Helpful Content, Core Updates, spam policies) and adapt strategy proactively.
  • Lead the SEO workstream of the migration to our new optimized WordPress environment for both sites.
  • Build and audit a full redirect map (301s) to preserve link equity and eliminate broken URLs post-launch.
  • Validate crawlability, indexation, and canonical structure before and after cutover.
  • Maintain XML sitemaps, robots.txt, and structured data through the transition.
  • Establish a pre/post migration rank tracking baseline and respond quickly to any traffic shifts.
  • Apply WordPress migration best practices to avoid Google penalties, duplicate content, and crawl errors.
  • Own the Rank Math configuration across both sites, including titles, meta descriptions, schema types, breadcrumbs, sitemaps, and focus keywords.
  • Use Rank Math's bulk editing features to scale on-page optimization efficiently.
  • Audit and maintain Rank Math SEO scores across key commercial and high-traffic pages.
  • Leverage Rank Math's 404 monitor, redirection module, and schema builder as part of your regular workflow.
  • Develop and execute keyword strategy targeting high-intent commercial terms across U.S. and Canadian markets for both brands.
  • Lead bulk optimization projects: title tags, meta descriptions, H-tag structure, image alt text, and page copy.
  • Identify content gaps, thin pages, and cannibalization issues; build prioritized remediation plans.
  • Produce or oversee content briefs that result in E-E-A-T-aligned pages serving both users and search engines.
  • Build and execute a credible backlink strategy targeting construction, agriculture, and industry publications.
  • Manage digital PR and brand mention opportunities that grow domain authority for both domains.
  • Optimize Google Business Profiles for both brands and maintain consistent NAP data across directories.
  • Develop familiarity with how AI-driven search surfaces (Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity) surface and cite content.
  • Experiment with content structures, FAQ schema, and conversational formats that improve visibility in AI answers.
  • Help build topical authority so both brands become the go-to source AI tools reference for steel building topics.
  • Stay current on Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) best practices and bring forward recommendations as this space matures.
  • Own SEO reporting across both sites: rank tracking, traffic trends, conversion attribution, and search visibility.
  • Use Rank Math, SEMrush, Ahrefs, GSC, and GA4 to surface actionable insights.
  • Report results clearly to stakeholders with a focus on business impact, not just traffic metrics.
