About The Position

The Honest Company is seeking a part-time contract SEO/GEO Content Writer for a two-month engagement starting in October 2026. The role combines editorial judgment, hands-on content optimization, and performance analysis to create authoritative, engaging content for traditional search engines and AI search platforms. The writer will develop and optimize digital content, implement approved recommendations directly in the company’s content management system and supporting marketing platforms, and use data to improve visibility and performance. The role requires knowledge of SEO and generative engine optimization (GEO), including how content structure, technical elements, entity signals, source credibility, and structured data affect discovery. The writer will work across content strategy and development, on-page and technical optimization, implementation, measurement, and collaboration with internal teams and subject-matter experts. Success may be measured by organic traffic and conversions, search and AI visibility, engagement, implementation quality, and content accuracy, accessibility, and brand consistency.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, English, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
3–5+ years of experience in SEO-focused content writing, content marketing, editorial strategy, or a related role.
Strong portfolio demonstrating high-quality digital content and measurable organic-search results.
Ability to implement on-page optimizations directly in a CMS.
Working knowledge of keyword research, search intent, internal linking, metadata, structured content, and schema markup.
Familiarity with how generative AI platforms retrieve, summarize, cite, and present information.
Experience using SEO and analytics tools such as Google Search Console, Google Analytics, Semrush, and Screaming Frog.
Familiarity with Shopify.
Excellent writing, editing, research, fact-checking, and proofreading skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver accurate work within established deadlines.
Sound judgment when using AI-assisted tools, including validating facts, protecting confidential information, and maintaining originality and brand standards.

Experience with HTML, CSS, JSON-LD, content taxonomies, or structured data implementation.

Responsibilities

Research, write, edit, and optimize articles, landing pages, product and category pages, FAQs, guides, and other digital experiences.
Translate business objectives, audience needs, and search insights into clear, useful, persuasive content.
Develop content briefs using keyword research, audience intent, competitive analysis, search-result trends, and AI-generated answer formats.
Maintain a consistent brand voice while adapting content for audiences, channels, and customer-journey stages.
Refresh and consolidate existing content to improve relevance, accuracy, authority, and performance.
Verify claims and incorporate reliable sources, subject-matter expertise, and original insights when appropriate.
Conduct keyword, topic, audience-intent, and competitor research to identify content opportunities.
Optimize titles, meta descriptions, headings, URLs, image alt text, anchor text, internal links, and on-page copy.
Structure content for people, search engines, and generative AI platforms, applying GEO practices such as answer-first writing, clear hierarchy, summaries, FAQs, entity clarity, factual support, and source attribution.
Strengthen experience, expertise, authority, and trust signals; identify opportunities for featured snippets, rich results, People Also Ask, conversational search, and AI-generated answers.
Balance optimization with readability, originality, accuracy, accessibility, and brand integrity.
Publish and update content in the company’s content management system and implement approved on-page SEO recommendations.
Build and maintain internal-linking structures that improve navigation, topic authority, and discoverability.
Add or coordinate structured data and schema markup, including Article, Product, Organization, FAQ, and Breadcrumb schema.
Identify and resolve basic content-related technical issues, such as broken links, duplicate content, redirect needs, missing metadata, indexing concerns, and improper heading structures.
Collaborate with development and technical SEO partners on site architecture, page speed, Core Web Vitals, rendering, canonicals, robots directives, sitemaps, and crawlability.
Perform prepublication and postpublication quality assurance to confirm content and optimizations display and function correctly.
Monitor organic-search performance, AI referral traffic, rankings, click-through rates, engagement, conversions, and content visibility.
Use performance data to recommend and implement content improvements; establish tests for headlines, metadata, page structure, calls to action, and content formats.
Track optimization changes and communicate their impact to marketing and business stakeholders.
Stay current on search-engine changes, AI discovery trends, GEO practices, and content-quality standards, distinguishing proven practices from emerging tactics and unsupported claims.
Partner with Brand, Creative, Digital, Product Marketing, E-commerce, Communications, Legal, and subject-matter experts.
Translate complex business or technical information into accessible content and provide SEO/GEO guidance to writers, agencies, and internal contributors.
Maintain editorial calendars, content inventories, optimization backlogs, and documentation of content standards.
