About The Position
DNV Maritime Region Americas is offering fall work term opportunities for the Fall Semester beginning August 31, 2026. This position is primarily for seniors seeking a work term within the Maritime Business Area. The work term will last approximately 16 weeks, offering exposure to various technical disciplines to build a broad technical foundation. The role involves assisting surveyors at the DNV Station St. John's on classed vessels and mobile drilling units, dive support vessels, FPSOs, oil tankers, fishing vessels, and anchor handling supply vessels to ensure their safety and integrity. DNV Canada Ltd. also acts as a certifying authority for offshore industry installations, assessing third-party and temporary equipment for safety and fitness for purpose. This opportunity aims to familiarize students with DNV's company culture and organization, expand their professional network, and provide an interesting, challenging, and fun experience. This opportunity is exclusively available at the DNV office in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a degree in Ocean Naval Architecture, Mechanical, or Oil and Gas Engineering
- Relevant work term experience may be considered for candidates studying other engineering disciplines
- Seniors looking for a fall work term
Responsibilities
- Assisting surveyors in the office to perform surveys of vessels and offshore installation equipment as part of our certifying authority scope of work
- Attend vessels in operation with a member of our team and help them complete vessel inspections
- Partake in certifying authority work including witness of pressure testing, load testing, approval of welder qualifications and fabrication around greater St. John’s and the Avalon area
- Perform on an equivalent level as a graduated engineer
- Once sufficiently trained, coordinate surveys, witness and follow through on reporting with support from mentors
