About The Position

GitLab is seeking a Senior UX Researcher to conduct rigorous and curious research for both product and marketing initiatives. This role involves foundational product studies, brand perception analysis, and understanding buyer mindsets. The position is strategic and high-visibility, requiring collaboration with Product Design, Product Management, Brand, and Marketing teams to influence product development and communication strategies. The unique aspects of this role include working across brand and product research with significant influence, researching enterprise developer tools and AI-powered features, operating in a fast-paced environment where research directly impacts decisions, and being part of a supportive team of experienced researchers focused on mutual growth.

Requirements

  • Empathetic, curious, and open-minded.
  • Deep mixed-methods research experience across qualitative and quantitative methods.
  • A track record in both product research and marketing or brand research.
  • Ability to guide stakeholders, including senior ones, toward the right research approach.
  • Strong instincts for prioritization across multiple stakeholder groups in a fast-moving environment.
  • Clear, compelling communication that makes findings land with product, brand, and marketing audiences.
  • Experience working in a highly iterative, fast-paced environment, with the ability to pivot with sudden changes in direction.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fully remote, globally distributed team with strong async communication habits.
  • Self-motivated and self-managing, with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to ramp up to a highly technical domain quickly.
  • Share GitLab's values and work in accordance with them.
  • Able to conduct research in a fully remote setting and use GitLab as part of the daily workflow.

Responsibilities

  • Lead foundational, problem validation, and strategic research projects across assigned product areas and beyond.
  • Drive both brand and product research, including buyer persona development, brand perception studies, and digital experience research, to inform positioning and messaging.
  • Serve as the expert on users within the area of coverage, understanding their behaviors, pain points, workflows, and goals.
  • Identify connections across research initiatives to surface macro insights.
  • Build trusted relationships with Product Design, Product Management, Brand, and Marketing counterparts, guiding them on appropriate research approaches.
  • Advocate for and socialize actionable insights in a clear and compelling manner to foster organizational empathy.
  • Independently prioritize research initiatives across stage groups, balancing impact, product direction, and company objectives.
  • Mentor other researchers and contribute to the evolution of the Experience Research team through process iteration, documentation, and peer reviews.
