This role is a New Product Introduction (NPI) support role, partnering with Manufacturing Engineering/PDP in early involvement in the Product Development Process (PDP). The focus is on analyzing mechanical design with the goal of creating and improving designs for manufacturing, considering machining, welding, or assembling. The engineer will develop fixturing for new or improved manufacturing of parts, ensuring correct alignment and load application to meet specifications such as straightness, flatness, or other profiles. They will also create accessory tooling for manufacturing processes, like templates for stud welds, heat sinks, and alignment tools. Partnership with designers for concurrent fixture/tool design during the mechanical product design phase is crucial, with iteration cycles from prototype to 0-series production. Support for operational teams in developing and building tooling and fixtures for legacy products across various manufacturing areas (3-5 axis machining, mill turning, robot welding, manual welding, assembly) is also a key responsibility. The role requires creating mechanical 3D models of all fixtures and tooling, user instructions, and managing design documentation in the PLM system. Coordination of production orders for fixture and tool manufacturing, including setting up Bills of Materials (BOMs), and manufacturing/assembly of fixtures with applicable cells, including facilitation of fixture testing, are also part of the job. Determining material requirements and coordinating/initiating purchasing of materials, components, and hardware is also expected.
