About The Position

The Senior Technician is a part-time, on-call position responsible for the set-up, operation, and load-out of audio/visual equipment for events at Drexel University's Main Campus. This role serves as a primary contact for student organizations, academic departments, and external clients during events, working closely with the Drexel University Student Technicians (D.U.S.T.) division of Drexel University Events Services. Responsibilities include providing audio/visual support for various events such as performances, meetings, conferences, and special events. As a front-line employee, the Senior Technician is crucial for ensuring exceptional customer service and the success of events managed by the Event Services Department. The position reports to the Associate Director of Event Operations and the Director of Event Services. Drexel University operates on a year-round academic calendar, with the most intensive event periods being September to mid-December (Fall term) and April to mid-June (Spring term). Flexibility is required throughout the year, as events occur in all terms. This is an 'if/when' position, with scheduling dependent on event volume and allotted hours.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a HS Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 2 years of combined experience using wide range of audio/visual equipment including house and portable lighting systems, various types of presentation equipment, laptop computers (PC-based and Mac-based), portable and fixed projection screens, and various types of analog and digital sound equipment.
  • Ability to work September 14th through 18th for Welcome Week.
  • Experience handling technical requirements for small to medium sized-events with limited supervision.
  • Strong commitment to providing exceptional guest service and meeting customer needs.
  • Ability to safely secure equipment for transportation.
  • Comfortable delegating tasks to subordinates and managing small to medium size production events.
  • Strong organization, coordination, and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work and schedule assignments.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems, investigate and analyze information and to draw appropriate conclusions.
  • Ability to work independently of others and under limited supervision.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional early mornings (5:00 - 6:00 am) or late nights (Midnight – 1:00 am) as needed.
  • Valid United States Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

  • Training in proper set up, operation and load out of technical equipment.
  • Assure all safety measures are in place involving personnel and equipment.
  • Provide feedback to the Associate Director, Event Operations concerning performance of student employees.
  • Supervise D.U.S.T. student employee technicians in live production situations, including assign and delegate responsibilities during events based on individual abilities and event needs.
  • Assess student employee performance and to assist in training of student staff when directed.
  • Assist in determining the best equipment to meet the needs of the event.
  • Delivery of event-related audio/visual equipment to various locations on campus using authorized university vehicles including all-terrain vehicle and other vehicles as assigned.
  • Maintain positive relationships with University faculty, staff, students and external clients regarding services provided by the D.U.S.T./Event Services Department.
  • Assist in the equipment control function, conducting routine tours of the university buildings and grounds noting and returning D.U.S.T. equipment to proper storerooms.
  • Straighten and organize storerooms and routinely inspect condition of audio/visual equipment routinely; reporting equipment in need of repair to proper personnel.
  • Suggest new or replacement equipment thereby assisting in the efficiency of the department.
  • Work one mandatory week of scheduling each September for the university’s “Welcome Week” event series welcoming incoming freshmen to the campus.
  • Play a key roll in event production during key university events, including Enrollment Open House and Admitted Students Weekends.
  • Duties as assigned by the Associate Director, Event Operations.
