About The Position

Hundred Star Games is an independent video game developer based in Hackney Wick, East London, founded by Jamie Walker and Sefton Hill, previous founders of Rocksteady and the creative leadership team of Rocksteady’s Batman Arkham series. Growing to a maximum of 100 people over the next few years, we’re doing things differently at Hundred Star, so we can focus on making great games and building meaningful connections with those we work with. We’re looking for a Senior Technical Artist to join our growing team and be a vital link between our Artists and Engineers, as we work together to create a truly unique and exciting experience in UE5. Working closely with our existing Technical Artists, you will be responsible for supporting scalable workflows, uphold quality standards, and help ensure our game looks stunning without compromising performance. We’re a hybrid studio, with everyone working in studio Tuesday through Thursday, with Mondays and Fridays open to WFH within the UK.

Requirements

  • Proven track record of optimizing real-time content to meet platform Performance targets (PC/Console) in UE4/5
  • Experience developing and maintaining real time shaders.
  • Demonstrable skill in 3d art pipeline creation (Destruction, VFX, Procedural).
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Strong proactive problem-solving attitude.

Nice To Haves

  • Given the highly collaborative and small size of our studio, individuals who are familiar with the core responsibilities of VFX, Environment Art and Technical Animation positions would be advantageous.
  • An understanding of PCG (Procedural Content Generation) in UE5.
  • Experience setting up and optimising Chaos destructible assets in UE5, with an awareness of the runtime performance implications of destruction simulations.

Responsibilities

  • Confidently communicate and coordinate with the Art, Programming, and Design teams.
  • Create and maintain efficient and user-friendly (art) pipelines, tools, and workflows within Unreal Engine 5, ensuring teams can work efficiently at scale.
  • Optimize memory and game performance, performing regular performance audits using Unreal Insights, GPU Visualizer, and other profiling tools to document and take appropriate action when needed.
  • Develop and nurture materials and shader graphs in UE5, balancing visual quality with GPU cost.
  • Help to solve complex technical art production issues which occur during development.
