Senior Systems Performance Engineer - Modeling

Micron Technology•Longmont, CO
•$116,000 - $198,000

About The Position

Micron Technology’s Data Center Workload Engineering team is seeking a Senior Systems Performance Engineer to build data-center-scale performance and power models for Micron SSD and memory products. The role develops software tools and analysis frameworks to project product performance under real and emerging data-center workloads, especially AI training, inference, agent AI, and large-scale data analytics. The engineer will build and validate performance and power models for SSD and DRAM products in full-system and data-center contexts. The work combines hands-on laboratory testing, software development, workload analysis, and collaboration with architects, product engineers, and system designers to inform architecture and product decisions. The role also offers opportunities to deepen expertise in data-center performance modeling.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with at least 3 years of relevant industry experience; or a master’s, PhD, or equivalent experience with at least 1 year. Graduate research in systems performance or architecture counts toward experience.
  • Hands-on experience with Linux servers and physical hardware.
  • Experience writing software for modeling, simulation, data analysis, or automation.
  • Experience building or extending a performance, power, or analytical model and validating it against measured data.
  • Working knowledge of compute, memory, storage, and interconnect systems, including PCIe, DMA, and memory fundamentals.
  • Ability to explain technical findings clearly.

Responsibilities

  • Build performance and power models for SSDs and DRAM in servers and data centers.
  • Develop tools in Python, C/C++, or similar languages and use benchmarks, workload traces, and field telemetry to project performance.
  • Test server platforms and measure throughput, latency, bandwidth use, endurance, and power to validate models.
  • Analyze AI and data-intensive workloads and compare performance, power, and cost across compute, memory, storage, and interconnect choices.
  • Share model assumptions, results, and recommendations.
  • Contribute to simulation or emulation work when needed.

Benefits

  • Medical insurance plans
  • Dental insurance plans
  • Vision insurance plans
  • Income protection benefits for illness or injury
  • Paid family leave
