About The Position

At ONI, we are driven by a profound mission: to propel scientific discovery and combat diseases by granting everyone the ability to visualize, comprehend, and share the intricate microscopic details of life. Our revolutionary super resolution microscope and fluidic systems stand at the forefront of advancing cellular studies on a molecular level. We are seeking a versatile Senior Systems Integration Engineer who thrives at the intersection of hardware, software, and biology to lead the technical realization of our next-generation biotech platforms. Your role at ONI as a Senior Systems Integration Engineer As a Senior Systems Integration Engineer within the Fluidics Team, you will be the technical "glue" between design and production. You will not only verify that our systems work, but actively participate in the design, prototyping, and manufacturing scale-up of complex biotech hardware. This role requires a unique blend of fluid dynamic knowledge, mechanical design (CAD), automated testing (Python), and a deep understanding of manufacturing processes (injection molding, CNC machining).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Optical, or related field).
  • 5+ years of experience in system integration, hardware development, or complex instrumentation.
  • Demonstrated experience in testing and integrating systems containing automated liquid handlers, fluidic consumables and high-precision instrumentation.
  • Deep understanding of fluid dynamics as well as fluidic components, including peristaltic/syringe pumps, solenoid valves, sensors (pressure/flow), and connectors.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD for part/assembly design, detailed drawings, and design iteration.
  • Experience with SolidWorks is strongly preferred, particularly for complex assemblies, production ready drawings, and Product Data Management (PDM) workflows.
  • Proficiency in Python for test automation and data analysis (Excel/Custom scripts).
  • Experience developing test methods and executing system-level verification and validation.
  • Solid understanding of various manufacturing methods, specifically injection molding, assembly, and quality control (e.g., First Article Inspection).
  • Familiarity with full product development processes (concept to launch) and rigorous technical documentation standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on wet lab experience, with familiarity in biological workflows or assay development.
  • Experience with embedded systems (e.g., STM32) and integration of PCB-based hardware and firmware.
  • Knowledge of super-resolution microscopy, optics, and imaging subsystems.
  • Working knowledge of electronics design tools (e.g., Altium Designer, KiCAD) and hands-on skills such as soldering, and custom cabling.
  • Experience with sterilization methods (e.g., Gamma, EtO) and materials used in biomedical consumables.
  • Familiarity with pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSA), overmolding, or microfluidic device fabrication.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end system integration across fluidic systems, consumables, optics, and electronics.
  • Develop system-level test strategies, integration plans, and verification protocols aligned with product requirements.
  • Design and execute rigorous V&V protocols to identify technical issues early in the development lifecycle.
  • Design and manufacture test fixtures and prototypes using SolidWorks.
  • Utilize 3D printing (Resin/FDM), CNC machining, and sheet metal fabrication to accelerate R&D.
  • Lead development of microfluidic devices and injection-molded consumables, including tooling oversight, material selection (e.g., PSA, overmolding), and biocompatibility considerations.
  • Drive transfer from R&D to manufacturing, ensuring designs are robust, documented and scalable.
  • Create and maintain Work Instructions (WI), SOPs, and validation documentation (IQ/OQ/PQ).
  • Manage Bill of Materials (BOMs) and Engineering Change processes (ECO/ECR) using PDM tools (3DXperience).
  • Develop automated test frameworks in Python for hardware testing (e.g., leak testing, heat sealing, liquid handling).
  • Collaborate with the Software team for firmware/software integration and version control (GitHub).
  • Maintain and manage dFMEA, pFMEA, and risk register ownership.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis and failure investigations using HAL logs and data analysis.
  • Work independently to source materials, manage vendors and contractors, and collaborate with Assay, Software, and Production teams to meet product launch milestones.
