About The Position

The Advanced Product Development (APD) team designs and develops future surgical robotic systems. Systems Analysts contribute to new products in the da Vinci product line, developing surgical teleoperation, motion control, and safety algorithms across electrical, mechanical, software, control, user interface, and safety engineering. The role works closely with a small, multidisciplinary team and cross-functional partners to understand product requirements, evaluate new designs, and address challenging system problems. Systems Analysts also follow research and technologies relevant to medical devices and safety-critical systems and apply them to system design.

Requirements

  • Minimum MS degree in Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a similar field, with 4–5+ years of industrial experience; alternatively, a PhD with 1–3+ years of experience.
  • Experience designing and implementing servo control systems.
  • Strong embedded development skills, including intimate knowledge of C and modern C++.
  • Programming capabilities in MATLAB and Python, as well as hardware and software integration skills.
  • Detail-oriented, with the ability to develop and drive a single solution to completion.
  • Comfort with design input, design output, traceability, and risk analysis concepts.
  • Hands-on engineering experience and a proven ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Self-motivated and proactive in engaging with interdisciplinary teams to address and solve complex problems.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to development of new robotic systems through analysis and characterization.
  • Analyze complex electromechanical devices for dynamic safety and clinical risk.
  • Apply control theory to design and verify mechatronic and tele-robotic systems.
  • Integrate prototype hardware with existing systems.
  • Develop and implement motion control and safety algorithms, documenting risks, requirements, and test protocols.
  • Develop Cartesian controls for manipulator robotics to design and implement precise, efficient robotic movements.
  • Participate in clinical observations and experiments to ensure performance requirements are relevant and realistic.
  • Communicate system performance to the organization.
  • Support and track system performance as it evolves from design engineering to manufacturing.
  • Provide analytical assistance and build tools for other engineering issues.
  • Act as an interface between technical specialties, taking ownership of cross-disciplinary issues and using a broad skillset to support project success.
  • Document and communicate intellectual property.

Benefits

  • Market-competitive compensation package including base pay, incentives, benefits, and equity.
