Senior Systems Administrator

Horizontal DigitalSt. Louis Park, MN
$75,000 - $110,000Hybrid

About The Position

At Horizontal Digital, we hold ourselves to one key belief: You’re only as good as your worst customer experience. This mantra is what drives our digital consultancy to think beyond the easy answers and instead create websites, apps, portals and other experiences that solve customer needs for Fortune 500 companies in intuitive and empathetic ways. And we make this lofty standard a reality by fusing strategy, data, design and technology together to arrive at solutions that set the bar higher for everyone. We use these values to fuel superior results: Lock arms We forge relationships that make our impact 1,000x stronger. This means working across departments and engaging both our clients and our communities to deliver the greatest good. Show hustle We’re not ones to sit on our hands and wait. Instead, we anticipate opportunities, collectively roll up our sleeves and find ways to execute the exceptional. Embrace change From new technologies to workplace philosophies, we welcome the unexpected and constantly anticipate what’s next. Elevate empathy We listen before we take action. This means understanding a variety of perspectives and holding ourselves to a higher standard of accountability. Never settle We motivate each other to push past the easy answers and collectively arrive at bigger, more inspiring ideas. But enough about us. Let’s talk about you. We’re looking for a Senior Systems Administrator to serve as a technical backbone of our IT operations. You’ll own the systems that keep Horizontal Digital running including endpoint management, identity and access, Microsoft 365, security tooling, and compliance platforms, while mentoring a growing IT team and leading the internal side of infrastructure projects like our migration to Microsoft Intune and the rollout of data protection tooling. If you thrive on solving hard problems across a broad technology stack and want a role where your decisions directly shape how a company operates, this is it.

  • A security-minded operator who instinctively thinks about access controls, data protection, and compliance implications when making infrastructure decisions
  • A proactive communicator who can translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences and advocate for IT needs to leadership
  • Someone energized by the pace of a growing organization where priorities shift, new tools emerge, and no two weeks look the same
  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of experience in IT systems administration, infrastructure management, or a related hands-on technical role
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with MDM platforms such as Microsoft Intune, Jamf, Workspace One, or equivalent tools.
  • Deep knowledge of Active Directory and IdP (OKTA, OneLogin or equivalent SSO/identity platform), including lifecycle management/SCIM, group policy design, and authentication policy configuration
  • Experience with Microsoft Entra ID and Azure administration, including conditional access, RBAC, and resource management
  • Advanced experience administering Microsoft 365, particularly Exchange Online, licensing, and tenant-level configuration
  • Strong proficiency in PowerShell scripting for automation and policy enforcement; additional experience with Bash or Python is a plus

  • Experience supporting global teams, preferred
  • Relevant certifications are a plus, such as Microsoft 365 Certified: Endpoint Administrator Associate, Microsoft 365 Administrator, Azure Administrator, CompTIA Security+

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a senior technical resource on the IT team, mentoring the less experienced IT team members, and acting as an escalation point for complex issues
  • Oversee endpoint management strategy and execution (currently Workspace One, migrating to Microsoft Intune), including configuration profiles, compliance policies, application deployment, and patching
  • Administer Active Directory, Okta SSO, Microsoft 365 (Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint), and manage licensing strategy and cost optimization across the M365 tenant
  • Serve as the internal technical lead during implementation of data loss prevention tooling (Microsoft Purview or equivalent) and data classification initiatives supporting ISO 27001 compliance
