Senior Systems Administrator

Greater Metroplex Interiors (GMi)Southlake, TX
$110,000 - $125,000Onsite

About The Position

GMi is looking for a Senior Systems Administrator who can own and operate the full technology environment for a complex, multi-site organization. This is a domain ownership role, not only an execution role. You will design, build, deploy, maintain, and support the network, security, and end-user technology stack that keeps 350+ computer users productive – 175 of them knowledge workers – while ensuring the right support systems are in place for our broader 1,800-person workforce. Innovation is a core value. The ideal candidate always looks for a better way to get things done. While few people today are "AI-fluent", we are looking for someone eager to grow and expand their AI knowledge to become an "AI-first SysAdmin." You will report directly to the CIO and operate with a high degree of autonomy within the strategic direction the CIO provides. You will also lead GMi's L1 Help Desk function, providing technical mentorship and L2/L3 escalation support to a small, growing team. If you are someone who can walk into an environment, understand it end to end, identify what needs to change, articulate why, and then execute without being told how – this role is for you.

Requirements

  • Ownership Mindset: You treat the environment as yours. You do not wait for things to break or for the CIO to identify a problem. You monitor, assess, and act. When something goes wrong, you own it through resolution.
  • Clear Communication: You can explain a technical issue to a non-technical executive in two sentences and write a change management plan that an IT auditor can follow. You communicate proactively – your colleagues and leadership know what is happening without having to ask.
  • Judgment and Prioritization: In a complex environment with competing demands, you can accurately assess what is urgent versus important and allocate your time accordingly. You can push back with a reasoned argument when asked to do something that conflicts with sound practice.
  • Planning and Follow-Through: You are organized. Projects you start, you finish. You build schedules that are realistic, track against them, and communicate when something changes. You do not let things drift.
  • Reliability: People at GMi depend on technology working. That means they depend on you. You understand that consistency and follow-through are as important as technical skill.
  • Collaboration: You work across departments – construction operations, project management, finance, HR – and you understand their needs well enough to anticipate them. You are a resource, not a gatekeeper.
  • Documentation Discipline: You document before you are asked. You plan your work then work your plan. Changes, configurations, procedures, runbooks – written, current, and findable.
  • 5+ years of progressive IT experience in an environment of comparable size and complexity, with demonstrated ownership of infrastructure rather than component-level support work
  • Microsoft 365 administration (Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, Entra ID / Azure AD, Intune)
  • Windows Server environments: Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, file services
  • Network infrastructure: LAN/WAN, routing, switching, VLANs, firewall management (Fortinet, Palo Alto, or equivalent)
  • Remote monitoring and management (RMM) platforms
  • Mobile device management (MDM): Intune or equivalent
  • Multi-factor authentication (MFA) and identity governance
  • VoIP telephony systems administration
  • Endpoint security and patching
  • Backup and disaster recovery design and operation
  • Virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V, or equivalent)
  • SQL Server fundamentals sufficient for basic administration and troubleshooting

Nice To Haves

  • AI-fluent
  • Eager to grow and expand AI knowledge to become an "AI-first SysAdmin."

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain all aspects of GMi's network and infrastructure: LAN/WAN, switching, routing, firewall management, VPN, and wireless. This spans the DFW headquarters and remote offices in Austin, San Antonio, and Houston, as well as connectivity requirements for field operations and jobsites.
  • Own the security posture of GMi's technology environment. This includes firewall policy, endpoint protection, MFA enforcement, access control, and compliance with company data security standards. You will proactively identify risks and act on them – you will not wait to be asked.
  • Own the full device lifecycle: procurement, imaging, deployment, management, and retirement. This includes endpoint management via RMM, mobile device management via MDM, and inventory tracking across all GMi locations. You will establish and maintain standards for how devices are configured and managed.
  • Oversee the tools and platforms that knowledge workers depend on daily – Microsoft 365, identity and access management, VoIP, and collaboration systems. You will ensure these systems are well-governed, properly licensed, and reliably operational.
  • Lead GMi's Help Desk function – currently one technician, with anticipated growth in 2027. You will set the standard for how support is delivered – response time, resolution quality, documentation, and escalation – and you will personally handle L2/L3 issues that require your expertise. You are accountable for the user support experience across all 1,800 employees.
  • Manage relationships with vendors, telecom providers, and hardware suppliers. You know what you are buying, why you are buying it, and whether it is delivering value.
  • Maintain thorough, current documentation of GMi's technology environment.
