About The Position

National Grid is hiring a Senior Supervisor for Gas Construction Contractor Oversight in Brooklyn, NY. The role supervises external gas contractor crews performing construction work and manages the local construction process to ensure safe, reliable installation of transmission and distribution systems in line with company goals, policies, and applicable governmental codes and regulations. Extensive knowledge of the gas system is required. The supervisor oversees construction programs for mains and services contractors, supports and develops subordinates, maintains industry knowledge, and develops continuous-improvement initiatives. The role also fosters cooperative working relationships with bargaining units and contractors, contributes to construction-related systems and technologies, verifies accurate work reporting and contractor operational qualification records, participates in contractor safety meetings, and oversees contractor material ordering and reporting.

Requirements

Familiarity with construction standards, work methods, Rules for Safe Operation, and associated procedures.
Knowledge of company policies and the application of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Planning, organizing, and computer skills.
Experience dealing tactfully and diplomatically with diverse groups, such as gas and/or electric customers and government officials.
Technical knowledge of the gas distribution system, engineering, construction, and maintenance practices.
Knowledge of state and municipal gas codes.
Working knowledge of company information systems and technologies related to field operations, including ADVANTEX, MDSI, LMS, FWMS, FDC, ORACLE, MAXIMO, NRG, and DIGSAFE.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft Power BI.
Valid driver's license.
Ability to work without current or future visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

Oversee gas construction programs for various mains and services contractors.
Motivate, coach, challenge, and provide developmental opportunities for subordinates.
Maintain industry involvement to keep abreast of changing technologies and best practices.
Develop continuous-improvement initiatives in support of the company's strategic objectives.
Foster cooperative working relationships with bargaining units and contractors.
Participate in the development and implementation of systems and technologies that support the construction process.
Ensure accurate reporting of work, including SOPs, work order histories, daily completion reporting, sketches, and Operations Qualification records.
Participate in contractors' weekly safety meetings and provide safety updates on behalf of National Grid.
Validate contractor OQ reporting and send it to appropriate stakeholders.
Oversee contractor material ordering and reporting.
