Senior Staff Test Engineer

Renesas Electronics•Austin, TX

About The Position

The Senior Staff Test Engineer develops test programs and solutions supporting new product introductions (NPI), quality, and capability initiatives. The role supports product qualification, characterization, and correlation, and works with leadership to establish processes, procedures, guidelines, and specifications that drive test-group execution and quality. It develops baseline software and hardware solutions to scale team and organizational capabilities, contributes ROI inputs for planning test flows with revenue, cost of goods sold (COGS), and capacity in mind, and completes quality planning and hardware and software reviews. The engineer partners with product engineering and operations to enable production ramps and releases, supports production yield and customer-return quality activities, and serves as an expert on the test group's automated test equipment (ATE) platform. The role also mentors and trains less-experienced engineers, supports lab and technical teams with equipment calibration and maintenance planning, and manages third-party relationships and collaboration with external technical teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
  • 10 to 15+ years of experience working with automated test systems (ATE).
  • 10 to 15+ years of hands-on ATE test-development experience for analog, digital, and mixed-signal products, with a strong focus on analog power product testing.
  • Programming experience in languages such as C++, BASIC, Perl, or Python.
  • Experience testing and collecting data on IC chips or circuits using standard tools such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and spectrum analyzers.
  • Proficiency with ATE analog and digital instruments, PCB-layout parasitic reduction, and debugging and troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on experience debugging analog products with serial-bus interfaces.
  • Experience with test hardware and test-program development.

  • Determine and report ROI inputs for test-flow planning, considering revenue, COGS, and capacity.
  • Complete quality planning and hardware and software reviews for the test group.
  • Coordinate with product engineering and operations to enable production ramps and releases.
  • Support production yield and customer-return quality activities.
  • Serve as a test-platform expert for the ATE equipment used by the test group.
