About The Position

Kinetic IT is seeking a SQL DBA for the National Services team, primarily supporting a high-profile client in East Perth. This role encompasses both infrastructure and application responsibilities, covering general SQL duties. The position also includes an on-call rotation, week on week off. The core functions involve managing, supporting, and optimizing Microsoft SQL Server platforms within a managed services environment. This includes providing Business As Usual (BAU) DBA support, such as monitoring, incident response, root cause analysis, and issue resolution. Key responsibilities also include designing, implementing, and supporting high availability and disaster recovery solutions, performing performance tuning and optimization, and managing backup, restore, and disaster recovery processes with regular testing and documentation. Additionally, the role requires implementing and maintaining database security controls, contributing to service improvement through automation and other initiatives, and ensuring security and compliance through access control, encryption, vulnerability management, and audit alignment. The role also involves assisting with automation solutions to reduce manual effort and improve reliability, and contributing to the continuous improvement of database standards, tooling, and operational processes.

Requirements

  • Proven track record as a Senior SQL DBA
  • Experience across infrastructure and applications
  • Demonstrated experience supporting high availability and mission critical database environments
  • Experience working with DevOps pipelines
  • Solid troubleshooting and diagnostic skills in performance and stability issues
  • Understanding of security, compliance and audit requirements in enterprise environments
  • Ability to communicate clearly with technical teams and stakeholders
  • Ability to communicate effectively within a customer environment

Nice To Haves

  • Any exposure to DevOps Pipelines
  • Any automation exposure
  • Exposure to additional database platforms such as Oracle or cloud environments is advantageous
  • Any exposure to Oracle Databases would be advantageous

Responsibilities

  • Manage, support and optimise Microsoft SQL Server platforms within a managed services environment
  • Provide BAU DBA support including monitoring, incident response, root cause analysis and issue resolution

  • Perform performance tuning and optimisation
