About The Position

At Allstate, the Lead Consultant (SQL Senior Database Administrator) performs activities aimed at improving database performance and efficiency. This individual provides trending data and makes recommendations for performance issues across application and database environments, ensuring stability and evaluating new or changed products. The role involves comprehensive database management, security, and collaboration with development and IT teams, covering MS SQL Server, MongoDB, Oracle, and PostgreSQL databases.

Requirements

  • 5-7 years of experience in database administration, specifically with MS SQL Server, MongoDB, Oracle, and PostgreSQL.
  • Strong knowledge of database backup, recovery, and replication strategies.
  • Proficiency in Oracle database management, including Oracle RAC and Data Guard.
  • Experience with MongoDB/SQL Server/PostgreSQL deployment and management tools.
  • Familiarity with database monitoring tools and best practices.
  • Knowledge of agility tools such as Version1.
  • Familiarity with ticketing systems such as ServiceNow.
  • Experience with Datadog monitoring.
  • Cloud-based database administration experience with Azure or Amazon AWS.
  • Familiarity with ITIL practices.
  • Proficiency in Python and PowerShell scripting.
  • Extensive knowledge of Oracle SQL and PL/SQL, as well as MongoDB/SQL Server/PostgreSQL queries and aggregation framework.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and various stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.

Responsibilities

  • Administer, monitor, and maintain MS SQL Server, MongoDB, Oracle, and PostgreSQL databases.
  • Implement data backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and availability.
  • Optimize database performance and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
  • Enforce database security measures to safeguard sensitive data.
  • Implement and manage user access and roles to ensure compliance with security policies.
  • Work with development teams to design and implement database solutions that support application requirements.
  • Collaborate with IT teams in managing database changes and upgrades.
  • Set up and utilize monitoring tools to track database performance and address bottlenecks.
  • Generate reports on system performance, availability, and other relevant metrics.
  • Perform routine database maintenance tasks, including patching and updates for MS SQL Server, MongoDB, Oracle, and PostgreSQL.
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements for database architecture and software tools.
  • Configure and optimize database parameters in accordance with best practices.
  • Conduct regular disaster recovery drills to ensure the effectiveness of backup strategies.
  • Analyze and optimize database queries, indexing, and overall performance.
  • Assist in schema design, data modeling, and database migrations.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of database configurations, procedures, and policies.
