About The Position

We’re seeking an experienced Senior Software Factory Engineer to help modernize a mission-critical submarine combat system. In this role, you will enable the transformation of a large monolithic C++ codebase into secure, scalable Java-based microservices while strengthening the software factory capabilities required to deliver those systems reliably, securely, and efficiently. This is an opportunity for a senior engineer with deep experience in CI/CD pipelines, build systems, DevOps practices, source-control workflows, and software-delivery modernization. You will support the team’s current Bamboo and Bitbucket environment while helping define and execute a practical migration to GitLab.

Requirements

  • Strong hands-on expertise in CI/CD pipeline design, implementation, automation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with CI/CD platforms such as Bamboo, Bitbucket, GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, or comparable tools.
  • Demonstrated experience improving Git-based source-control workflows in platforms such as Bitbucket or GitLab, including branching strategies, pull/merge requests, code reviews, tagging, release management, and repository versioning.
  • Experience planning or executing the migration of repositories, build pipelines, CI/CD workflows, and developer processes from platforms such as Bitbucket and Bamboo to GitLab.
  • Experience with build tooling and build systems in multi-language software environments, such as CMake, Gradle, Maven, Make, Bazel, or comparable technologies.
  • Ability to evaluate, select, integrate, and adapt build, integration, and deployment tooling to support multiple programming languages, technology stacks, and changing program needs.
  • Familiarity with Java-based microservices development and ecosystems; experience with legacy C++ systems is a plus.
  • Knowledge of DevOps principles, automated testing, artifact management, infrastructure automation, and secure software-delivery practices.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Department of Defense Secret security clearance is preferred at time of hire.
  • Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
  • Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building, operating, or modernizing a software factory for a complex, multi-team engineering program.
  • Hands-on experience with both Atlassian Bamboo/Bitbucket and GitLab, particularly in multi-repository, multi-team development environments.
  • Experience migrating Bamboo build plans and Bitbucket repositories to GitLab projects and GitLab CI/CD while maintaining access controls, traceability, security requirements, and release continuity.
  • Knowledge of GitLab runners, CI/CD templates, package registries, artifact retention, code-quality tooling, and DevSecOps/security-scanning integrations.
  • Experience establishing enterprise-scale repository, branching, versioning, and release-management strategies.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, containerization, Kafka, Spring Boot, and modern microservices deployment patterns.
  • Knowledge of secure coding, cybersecurity, DevSecOps, and compliance practices in defense or other regulated environments.
  • Experience with defense, combat-system, or other high-consequence mission systems.
  • Understanding of database architecture, data modeling, and data-access considerations for distributed applications.
  • A pragmatic, adaptable mindset that balances modernization objectives with the operational needs of an actively delivering program.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and accelerate software-factory modernization efforts for the migration of a monolithic C++ application to Java-based microservices.
  • Design, implement, maintain, and improve robust automated build, test, integration, and deployment pipelines for a complex, multi-repository software environment.
  • Enhance and standardize the current Bamboo and Bitbucket environment while planning and executing a smooth, phased migration to GitLab.
  • Assess existing build, test, release, artifact-management, and repository workflows; identify opportunities to improve delivery speed, repeatability, traceability, security, and product quality.
  • Define and implement scalable versioning, branching, release, and configuration-management strategies across multiple repositories, components, and technology stacks.
  • Establish effective Git workflows, including branching standards, pull/merge request practices, code review, tagging, release management, and repository governance.
  • Help teams adopt GitLab capabilities, including GitLab CI/CD, repository management, merge requests, runners, package and artifact management, and integrated security scanning.
  • Develop and improve build infrastructure using modern build, dependency-management, and automation tools—such as Bazel, CMake, Gradle, Maven, Make, or comparable technologies—to support multiple languages and evolving program needs.
  • Collaborate with software, DevOps, systems, cybersecurity, test, infrastructure, and program teams to integrate modern DevOps practices into the delivery lifecycle.
  • Contribute to database architecture and integration approaches supporting distributed, microservices-based applications.
  • Mentor team members and guide the adoption of modern software-factory tools, processes, and engineering practices.

  • highly competitive benefits
  • flexible work environment
