Senior Software Engineering Manager, Platform

Tulip Interfaces•Somerville, MA
•$160,000 - $220,000•Hybrid

About The Position

Tulip is hiring a Senior Software Engineering Manager to lead its Identity & Access work. The role owns the architecture and roadmap for identity and access across Tulip’s multi-cloud infrastructure, including enterprise federation, provisioning, multi-tenant account structures, and authorization. The manager will lead a small, high-caliber engineering team and remain close to technical work, ensuring security-critical systems are well-designed, tested, and operationally reliable. The position focuses on authentication, provisioning, and access governance for manufacturers and the AI agents acting on their behalf. Failures can affect production operations, material, and compliance, so tenant isolation and enterprise requirements are central. The manager will also promote practical use of AI tools in engineering workflows and share effective approaches across the engineering organization. The role is based in Somerville, Massachusetts, in a hybrid environment requiring at least three days per week in the office. The stated salary range is $160,000–$220,000 per year.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of software engineering experience, including direct involvement building and operating security-critical or identity/access systems in production.
  • At least 3 years of people-management experience leading a software team, including hiring, giving constructive feedback, and growing engineers.
  • Hands-on depth with OAuth 2.0, SAML 2.0, OIDC, and SCIM in enterprise environments, including understanding their specifications and failure modes.
  • Experience building multi-tenant systems where tenant isolation is a hard requirement.
  • Working knowledge of IAM, secrets management, and access policy across AWS and Azure, including tradeoffs when customers use both.
  • Track record of shipping clean, tested code and holding a team to the same standard.
  • Active use of AI tooling in personal engineering practice and a point of view on how it changes team development.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent working experience.

Responsibilities

  • Own the architecture and roadmap for identity and access, including SSO/SAML/OIDC federation, SCIM provisioning, multi-tenant account structures, and the authorization layer across Tulip’s multi-cloud infrastructure.
  • Represent Identity & Access in cross-functional architecture reviews and roadmap decisions.
  • Lead and grow a small engineering team through regular one-on-ones, quality standards, direct feedback, and engineer development.
  • Protect customer operations by building reliable systems for environments where failures can halt production, scrap material, or create compliance risks.
  • Drive adoption of AI tooling in team workflows, including code review, test generation, specification drafting, and agent loops; share effective practices across engineering.
  • Make and own IAM and access-policy tradeoffs while maintaining tenant isolation and enterprise compliance.
  • Ship customer-facing work quickly and reliably, with operational excellence as the default.
