Senior Software Engineer - Platform Infrastructure

Qualtrics•Seattle, WA
•Hybrid

About The Position

The Platform Infrastructure team builds and operates foundational software that engineering teams use to run their services. This role focuses on making platform workloads more cost-effective through tooling and frameworks that help teams monitor and optimize CPU and memory use. The team runs EKS and supports engineering teams across Qualtrics, with PGF currently an exception until it is rolled in. The role also involves building services in Golang and working on Kubernetes orchestration as platform needs evolve. The team's engineering customers rely on it across service discovery and orchestration. The engineer will help create, deploy, and operate services that meet platform availability, scalability, and performance goals; define how engineers operate containerized workloads; and architect services and service-discovery practices across Qualtrics engineering. The role includes periodic on-call responsibilities as part of a global team. The team works closely with AWS, including AWS Technical Account Managers, and operates at a scale of thousands of hosts across global regions. It works alongside internal platform, infrastructure, and developer experience teams, with transparent discussions and rigorous design reviews. The Qualtrics hybrid work model requires employees to work in the office three days per week: Mondays, Thursdays, and one additional day selected by the organizational leader. Employees may work from their preferred location for the remainder of the week.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience developing and operating large-scale software systems.
  • Experience with professional software engineering practices, such as unit testing, code reviews, and design documents.
  • Experience with high-level programming languages such as Go and scripting languages such as Bash.
  • Experience building software or systems that serve multiple teams or an entire company.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, ideally EKS, including workload and resource management, node pool management, and policy enforcement.
  • Skilled at debugging applications in a Linux environment.
  • Systems engineering experience must be paired with production software development experience; a background focused entirely on Linux or system administration is not the target profile.
