About The Position

Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team builds data platform products across databases, data integration, analytics, messaging, and business intelligence. The Databases organization delivers scalable operational databases for cloud, hybrid, and on-premises environments, supporting critical workloads and AI-native application development. The Azure Cosmos DB Gateway team is hiring a Software Engineer to work on the critical front-end data plane for a globally distributed database service. The Gateway sits on the request path between customers and Azure Cosmos DB, processing trillions of requests daily across hundreds of clusters worldwide. The team owns the scalability, availability, performance, and operational excellence of this infrastructure and is developing a next-generation Gateway to increase throughput, reduce latency, improve resiliency, and lower infrastructure costs. This role designs and builds highly available, high-performance distributed systems and infrastructure for Cosmos DB Gateway applications. The position works across request routing, connection management, networking, caching, load balancing, resource management, service reliability, and performance optimization. It also involves collaboration with Azure Cosmos DB partners, influencing architectures and standards, and creating reusable service libraries and practices. The role is listed as Software Engineering IC4. Applicants must meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including a Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter.
