About The Position

CreativeX is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for its Platform Engineering team in Portland, Oregon. The role owns the reliability, performance, and scalability of the production infrastructure behind CreativeX products. The team builds infrastructure, shared services, and self-service tools for engineers, and operates systems that collect, process, and serve advertising data and creative scoring. The engineer will help evolve the company’s core architecture, data layer, and processing pipelines, including leading database migrations and rearchitecture projects. The position involves writing production code, while much of its impact comes from designing, operating, observing, and scaling systems. The role also builds tooling that helps engineers deploy, test, and debug independently, and contributes to the platform supporting CreativeX’s growth.

Requirements

  • Experience leading a database migration or significant architectural change on a live production system.
  • Deep, hands-on experience with cloud data platforms in production, including performance tuning and query optimization.
  • Track record of scaling existing web applications and their infrastructure.
  • Strong grounding in observability, monitoring, and alerting.
  • Comfort reading and writing production code; Ruby on Rails is preferred.
  • Day-to-day use of AI tools such as Claude to build workflows and automation, not only as a search engine.
  • Clear communication skills, including explaining technical trade-offs to technical and nontechnical audiences and writing usable documentation.
  • Experience with a major cloud platform such as AWS or DigitalOcean.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code, such as Ansible.
  • Experience with Datadog or similar monitoring tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with high-volume data or media pipelines.
  • Experience with internal developer platforms or self-service tooling.
  • Experience working within a formal information security program.

Responsibilities

  • Own reliability and performance of production systems.
  • Lead database migrations and rearchitecture projects across teams, from planning and risk assessment through cutover, with minimal customer disruption.
  • Scale infrastructure and data processing pipelines to support growing data volumes and throughput.
  • Build self-service tools and automation that enable engineers to deploy, test, and debug independently.
  • Maintain and improve staging and development environments, deployment automation, and testing infrastructure.
  • Improve system observability, using AI-assisted workflows to reduce manual investigation and repetitive operational work.
  • Respond to production incidents and lead post-incident reviews that produce lasting fixes.
  • Collaborate with Information Security, Product, and engineering colleagues to maintain system security and identify feasibility and scalability risks early.
  • Set and meet platform reliability and performance targets.

  • Employee contributions to a 401(k) after completing the eligibility period.
