About The Position

CreativeX is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for its Platform Engineering team in Portland, Oregon. The role owns the reliability, performance, and scalability of production infrastructure supporting CreativeX products. The team builds infrastructure, shared services, and self-service tools for engineers, and operates systems that collect, process, and serve advertising data and creative scoring. The engineer will lead database migrations and rearchitecture, scale data processing pipelines, and build tools that help engineers deploy, test, and debug independently. This is a systems-level role involving production code, with impact focused on how systems are designed, operated, observed, and scaled. The position is hybrid and full-time, with a listed salary range of $132,300–$161,700. CreativeX cannot provide visa sponsorship for this role at this time. In the first 90 days, the successful candidate is expected to learn the production architecture, data layer, and deployment pipeline; ship production improvements; assess the database setup and agree on a migration or rearchitecture plan; and deliver a reliability or observability improvement. Within a year, they are expected to complete a major database migration or rearchitecture without unplanned customer-facing downtime, improve capacity and pipeline throughput against agreed targets, and deliver self-service tooling used across the engineering organization.

Requirements

  • Experience leading a database migration or significant architectural change on a live production system.
  • Deep, hands-on experience with cloud data platforms in production, including performance tuning and query optimization.
  • A track record of scaling existing web applications and their supporting infrastructure.
  • Strong grounding in observability, monitoring, and alerting.
  • Comfort reading and writing production code; Ruby on Rails is preferred.
  • Day-to-day use of AI tools such as Claude to build workflows and automation, not only as a search engine.
  • Clear communication skills, including explaining technical trade-offs to technical and nontechnical audiences and writing usable documentation.
  • Experience with a major cloud platform such as AWS or DigitalOcean.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code, such as Ansible.
  • Experience with Datadog or similar monitoring tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with high-volume data or media pipelines.
  • Experience with internal developer platforms or self-service tooling.
  • Experience working within a formal information security program.

Responsibilities

  • Own the reliability and performance of production systems.
  • Lead database migrations and rearchitecture projects across teams, including planning, risk assessment, and cutover with minimal customer disruption.
  • Scale infrastructure and data processing pipelines to support growing data volumes and throughput.
  • Build self-service tools and automation for engineers to deploy, test, and debug independently.
  • Maintain and improve staging and development environments, deployment automation, and testing infrastructure.
  • Improve system observability and use AI-assisted workflows to reduce manual investigation and repetitive operational work.
  • Respond to production incidents and lead post-incident reviews that produce lasting fixes.
  • Collaborate with Information Security, Product, and engineering colleagues to keep systems secure and identify feasibility and scalability risks early.
  • Set and meet platform reliability and performance targets.
