Senior Software Engineer, Full Stack (FES)

Fanatics Betting & Gaming•New York, NY
•$121,600 - $200,000

About The Position

Fanatics is building a global digital sports platform spanning commerce, collectibles, and betting. Fanatics Core provides shared foundations—including identity, payments, loyalty, wallet, data, and platform capabilities—that power its products. Fanatics ONE is the loyalty and identity program connecting those experiences. The Senior Software Engineer will design, build, and operate platforms and services that connect fans to Fanatics products. The role owns significant technical surface area end to end, sets technical direction for projects spanning services and teams, and helps raise engineering standards through mentorship, design leadership, and hands-on delivery. This is a hands-on full-stack position with a backend focus: most work centers on high-throughput, highly available Go services, alongside meaningful contributions to TypeScript/React front ends.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production systems.
  • Strong, demonstrated proficiency in Go, including experience shipping production services and knowledge of concurrency, error handling, testing, profiling, and performance tuning.
  • Experience designing, building, and scaling backend services and REST and/or gRPC APIs in distributed microservices environments.
  • Proficiency in JavaScript or TypeScript and experience with React or another modern front-end framework.
  • Solid grounding in relational and/or NoSQL databases, caching, and event streaming such as Kafka or SQS/SNS.
  • Experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure; containers; CI/CD; and infrastructure as code.
  • Strong operational skills in observability, monitoring, alerting, and debugging production issues under pressure.
  • Track record of leading projects with multiple contributors and delivering them on time without sacrificing quality.
  • Familiarity with Agile software delivery and SCRUM methodology.
  • Ability to work effectively cross-functionally in an enterprise environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building or integrating identity and access management systems, including authentication, authorization, SSO, and account lifecycle.
  • Familiarity with identity standards and protocols such as OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SAML, JWT, MFA, and session and token lifecycle management.
  • Experience with identity providers or CIAM platforms such as Okta, Auth0, ForgeRock, AWS Cognito, or Ping, or building an in-house identity platform.
  • Experience with account security, fraud prevention, PII handling, or regulatory- and compliance-driven engineering such as KYC, GDPR, or CCPA.
  • Experience designing systems for high-traffic consumer products with spiky, event-driven load.
  • Experience with platform or shared-services work serving other engineering teams.
  • Experience working in a start-up environment.
  • Experience in sports, commerce, media, or another consumer-scale domain.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test, document, and operate production-grade software, focusing on Go services and APIs.
  • Own technical design for medium-to-large features and systems, evaluate trade-offs, document decisions, and drive delivery.
  • Turn ambiguous problems into well-scoped, deliverable work for yourself and other engineers.
  • Lead and participate in design and architecture reviews, offering constructive feedback.
  • Set high standards in code reviews for correctness, readability, testability, and operational safety.
  • Mentor and develop engineers, onboard new hires, and serve as a technical point of contact for owned systems.
  • Participate in and improve the on-call rotation by instrumenting services, responding to incidents, and leading blameless postmortems that produce fixes.
  • Improve system reliability, performance, and cost; define and act on SLOs and operational excellence metrics.
  • Identify and reduce technical debt, and advocate for worthwhile investments.
  • Partner with product managers, designers, and stakeholders to shape roadmaps and technology decisions that support business growth.
  • Help define engineering principles, guidelines, and best practices, and uphold them across the team.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the industry, products, features, and roadmap to inform technical decisions.
