About The Position

As a Senior Software Engineer, Performance Engineering, you will drive performance engineering, optimization, and performance standards across NinjaOne. You will collaborate with software engineers and stakeholders to translate real-world usage patterns into actionable performance insights and help ensure systems are responsive, reliable, and scalable. You will analyze applications, databases, and system-level behavior; define performance standards and benchmarks; and partner with engineering teams to improve throughput, reduce latency, and enhance system efficiency. This is a hands-on software engineering role, not a QA or testing role. You will identify performance bottlenecks and help fix them in code, queries, and architecture. You will build reusable frameworks, tooling, and best practices so engineering teams can proactively identify and resolve performance challenges, and write code alongside those teams. The role may be remote from home for candidates located in the USA who reside in CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, IL, KS, MA, MD, ME, NJ, NC, NY, OH, OR, TN, TX, VA, or WA. Hybrid work is available at the physical offices in Austin, TX, and Tampa, FL. Onsite interviews may be required. NinjaOne’s stack includes Java, Kotlin, C++, Golang, and Postgres, and its scalable cloud service runs in AWS.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent work experience.
  • 6+ years of experience as a Software Engineer, with hands-on contributions to production code.
  • Strong understanding of system design and architecture, including how load balancers, services, datastores, and caches fit together and how data flows through a system.
  • Strong background in application optimization, query optimization, and performance debugging, with a solid grasp of performance methodology.
  • Deep experience with relational databases, including execution plan analysis, indexing strategies, and partitioning.
  • Experience debugging distributed systems and container-native environments.
  • Experience with asynchronous design and scaling patterns such as message brokers, event queuing, and event streaming.
  • Experience with at least one major cloud platform: AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Proficiency in scripting for automation and observability, such as Bash, Python, or similar, and experience building automation and pipelines.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and communication skills across technical and non-technical teams.
