Senior Software Engineer - Procore AI Experience
About The Position
Procore Technologies is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for its Procore AI Experience team to build AI-powered experiences for the construction industry. The role works closely with Product, Design, and Engineering partners to design, develop, and deliver intelligent software across product-led growth (PLG), platform integrations, and construction-specific workflows. Success requires strong software engineering fundamentals, experience with AI application architectures such as LLMs, RAG, and agentic workflows, and distributed systems expertise. The position is based in Procore’s Austin, Texas office and reports to the Engineering Manager, Procore AI Experience. The engineer will build and operate production-quality AI applications and platform services, incorporate AI technologies into reliable cloud architectures, and advance AI-assisted development practices. The role includes end-to-end ownership of engineering outcomes, establishing reusable patterns and best practices, and improving systems through performance monitoring, operational data, evaluation frameworks, and customer feedback.
Requirements
- Significant professional experience designing, building, and maintaining production-grade distributed software systems in a modern cloud environment.
- Hands-on experience integrating modern AI technologies into production software, such as LLM APIs, function or tool calling, RAG pipelines, or orchestration frameworks.
- Proficiency with AI-assisted developer tooling and an active approach to incorporating agentic engineering workflows into daily practice.
- Strong foundational knowledge of system design, API construction, data modeling, automated testing, and debugging.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity independently, make sound architectural tradeoffs balancing reliability, cost, latency, and simplicity, and clearly communicate technical rationale.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related STEM discipline, or equivalent practical work experience.
Nice To Haves
- Experience in AI platform engineering or developer productivity engineering, specializing in agent harness design and coding automation.
- Track record of building or contributing to developer platforms, shared engineering infrastructure, or product-led growth (PLG) SaaS features.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and operate production-quality AI-powered applications and platform services for customer-facing workflows.
- Integrate LLMs, AI agents, contextual knowledge systems, and RAG into reliable, scalable, and secure cloud software architectures.
- Partner with Product, Design, and Engineering to turn ambiguous customer challenges into maintainable software solutions.
- Experiment with, build, and refine developer agent harnesses, testing automation, and workflow tooling to advance AI-assisted software development.
- Own engineering outcomes end to end, including architectural design, code reviews, observability, latency, and continuous performance tuning.
- Establish reusable engineering patterns, abstractions, and best practices that improve code quality and help colleagues work effectively alongside AI agents.
- Monitor live application performance and use operational data, evaluation frameworks, and customer feedback to iteratively improve systems.
