About The Position

Kipu Quantum is looking for an experienced software engineer to build cloud-native systems end to end, with deep expertise in agentic AI. The role works across the Kipu Quantum Hub, including backend services, APIs, frontend, and infrastructure, with a focus on the product’s AI agents and on using agents to build software. The successful candidate will value maintainable, tested, and observable software, short feedback loops, and user value, and will help ensure agents deliver reliably through sound engineering practices. The Kipu Quantum Hub enables customers to build quantum solutions for optimization and machine learning and run them on real hardware using algorithms, REST APIs, and SDKs. Its agents help users assess whether quantum computing is suitable for a problem and engineer complete quantum-classical solutions as services in the Hub runtime. This is a senior role with ownership and scope to shape architecture, engineering practices, and agents. The role involves collaboration with quantum physicists, algorithm teams, data scientists, and hardware partners worldwide. The team is based in Berlin and works internationally, including remotely.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience, ideally building cloud-based products.
  • A degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong skills in at least one of Java, TypeScript, or Python, and willingness to work across the stack.
  • Experience with containers and a major cloud provider.
  • A good understanding of software architecture and API design.
  • A strong focus on code quality, automated testing, and continuous delivery.
  • Excellent English and German skills.
  • Experience building LLM-based applications, for example using RAG, tool use, or an agent framework.
  • Regular use of AI coding agents in daily work and an understanding of where they help and where they need guardrails.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Kubernetes.
  • Experience with the Model Context Protocol (MCP).
  • Experience evaluating LLM or agent quality.
  • Some exposure to quantum computing or other deep-tech and research environments; quantum knowledge is not required.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and operate backend services, APIs, and frontends for the Kipu Quantum Hub using a cloud-native architecture on Kubernetes in the public cloud.
  • Make architecture decisions for distributed systems, including microservices, asynchronous messaging, and API design, while keeping the system easy to change.
  • Help the team ship small changes to production frequently and safely through automated testing and CI/CD.
  • Develop product agents and improve their reliability through evaluations, monitoring, and cost control.
  • Build interfaces, such as MCP, that allow LLMs to work safely with APIs, quantum services, and hardware backends.
  • Help make AI coding agents a productive and reliable part of the team’s software development process.
  • Collaborate with quantum physicists and data scientists, and support team growth through pairing and feedback.

Benefits

  • Flexible working hours.
  • Option to work remotely.
  • Contributions toward public transport or shopping vouchers.
  • 30 vacation days.
