About The Position

Miller is building a cloud software-as-a-service business for the welding and fabrication industry, supported by ITW. As one of the first engineers on a small, senior internal team, the Senior Software Engineer will help shape how the company builds, ships, and operates software, including its use of AI-assisted engineering. The role owns end-to-end delivery of features and projects on Miller’s cloud SaaS platform, from refining requirements with Product and designing and coding solutions through operating them in production. The engineer works with the Software Architect, product leaders, customers, and contract development partners to improve quality and delivery speed, mentor others, and establish engineering practices for a modern SaaS business. The position is remote, with occasional travel to the Appleton, Wisconsin facility.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of professional software development experience.
  • Hands-on experience building and operating cloud-hosted web applications or services in production; Azure experience is preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in C#/.NET or a comparable modern language, including REST APIs and relational databases.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and monitoring production systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to own delivery end to end, work through ambiguity, and debug and improve code written by others, including AI-generated and partner code.
  • Professional experience using AI-assisted development tools and a clear understanding of where they help and where they do not.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience at a SaaS product company, including multi-tenant architecture or subscription products.
  • Infrastructure-as-code experience, such as Bicep or Terraform, and container experience, such as Docker, Kubernetes, or Azure Container Apps.
  • Experience working with or reviewing the work of contract or outsourced development teams.
  • Exposure to SOC 2, ISO 27001, or secure software development practices.
  • IoT, connected equipment, or industrial and manufacturing data experience.
  • Experience with modern front-end frameworks such as React, Angular, or Blazor.
  • Experience building AI- or LLM-powered product features.
  • Agile/Scrum experience and familiarity with delivery metrics such as DORA.
  • Curiosity about welding, fabrication, and the people who do the work.

Responsibilities

  • Own feature and project delivery end to end, independently breaking ambiguous problems into defined work.
  • Design and build cloud services, APIs, and web applications on Microsoft Azure using C#/.NET and modern front-end frameworks.
  • Partner with Product to refine requirements and identify simpler alternatives that deliver value faster.
  • Engage with customers, support, and design partners to understand software usage and deliver features with telemetry that demonstrates usage and value.
  • Review code and designs from contract development partners and raise quality and velocity concerns using data.
  • Define monitoring, alerting, and runbooks for owned systems; participate in on-call and incident response and contribute to blameless postmortems.
  • Build with infrastructure as code and CI/CD, and apply security and compliance controls in daily work.
  • Use time-boxed spikes and prototypes to test ideas and decide whether to discard or harden them.
  • Mentor engineers through code reviews, pairing, and knowledge sharing.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate design, coding, testing, and documentation while critically reviewing generated output and following ITW AI usage policy.
  • Stay current with AI tools, understand their trade-offs and risks, and share effective practices with the team.
  • Deliver software enhancements and improve software development, testing, and deployment processes.

Benefits

  • 401(k) match plus an additional retirement contribution.
