About The Position

Garmin is seeking a full-time Senior Software Engineer for its Core Platform Technology team in Boulder, Colorado. The role develops GNSS- and INS-based positioning solutions and explores, aligns, and advances positioning technology across Garmin product segments and categories. The engineer contributes to positioning productization and algorithm development; designs, implements, tests, and documents complex C/C++ software for embedded systems; and collaborates with colleagues on software and algorithm designs. The role includes peer reviews, technical research, project planning and leadership contributions, and mentoring less experienced software engineers. It also involves proposing process improvements and developing reliable solutions to difficult positioning problems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Math, Physics, or a related field and at least 5 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with positioning algorithms for consumer applications and a strong understanding of GNSS measurements and error sources; estimation techniques including least squares and Kalman filtering; blunder and fault detection; multi-constellation and multi-frequency systems; AGNSS; inertial navigation systems and sensors; sensor fusion; and other geomatic-related topics.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ software development and engineering for embedded, real-time environments.
  • Ability to use scripting languages such as Python or MATLAB, or C++, to automate analysis of large datasets for positioning algorithm verification.
  • Demonstrated ability to research technical algorithmic problems and implement appropriate algorithmic solutions.
  • Successful track record managing exceptionally complex problems and delivering innovative solutions.
  • Experience architecting solutions for multiple groups and/or disciplines.
  • Positive, detail-oriented, organized, team-oriented, driven, and self-starting approach, with the ability to solve problems, multitask, prioritize, and lead in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Expertise in inertial navigation techniques, such as vehicle and pedestrian dead reckoning and GNSS-aided INS.
  • Experience in Java.
  • Knowledge of carrier-phase measurement processing methods.
  • Knowledge of GNSS measurement generation, tracking loops, and how the environment affects measurements.
  • Experience with MEMS sensor technology, including modeling and quantifying accelerometer and gyroscope error sources.
  • Experience detecting GNSS denial-of-service, jamming, or spoofing events.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to productization and algorithm development in positioning technologies.
  • Design, implement, test, and document complex C/C++ software applications for embedded systems.
  • Participate in peer reviews of software designs, algorithm designs, and software implementations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on software and algorithm design approaches and implementations.
  • Develop reliable solutions to positioning problems using sound problem-solving techniques.
  • Participate in project leadership and program planning, including providing technical input to product development plans and concept documents.
  • Contribute to determining project goal and objective feasibility and use good judgment in setting schedules and taking risks.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to less experienced software engineers.
  • Contribute to advanced technical research on new technologies.
  • Suggest process improvements and author new procedures as appropriate.
  • Provide reliable solutions to a wide range of difficult problems using sound problem-solving techniques.

Benefits

  • Eligible for Garmin's benefit program; details are available through Garmin Benefits.
