GNSS Engineer

Xona Space Systems•Burlingame, CA
•$130,000 - $180,000

About The Position

Xona is seeking an analytical, self-driven GNSS engineer to solve technically complex problems in satellite navigation. The engineer will join the product team and conduct in-depth analyses of timing and positioning systems, taking part in live-sky demonstrations as well as analytical and theoretical studies related to LEO-PNT and its applications. Topics may include reliable timing for critical infrastructure and battery-power optimization on IoT and handheld devices. The role calls for both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience with GNSS technologies in a fast-paced, research-heavy environment. The engineer will design and conduct live-sky test campaigns demonstrating Pulsar capabilities, support time-sensitive LEO-PNT analyses, prepare technical resources concerning Pulsar-based PNT, and contribute research and technical documentation. The role may involve occasional rapid-turnaround technical assessments. Regional compliance requirements apply: U.S. roles require qualifying citizenship or protected status under export regulations; U.K. roles require BPSS checks and eligibility for Security Clearance; and Canada roles require reliability-status clearance and assessment for the Controlled Goods Program and ITAR.

Requirements

  • Experience with theoretical analysis of GNSS performance in various environments using Python, C, C++, or MATLAB.
  • Strong background in GNSS systems engineering, including measurement and position-engine development.
  • Hands-on experience with GNSS test equipment and lab-based signal validation.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, research-driven environment with changing technical priorities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including technical reports and presentations.
  • For U.S. roles: U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, or other protected-individual status as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), to comply with U.S. Government space technology export regulations.
  • For U.K. roles: ability to undergo Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) checks and eligibility to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC).
  • For Canada roles: ability to obtain and hold reliability-status security clearance and pass security assessment for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP) and ITAR.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Geomatics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or another relevant field.
  • 4+ years of experience working in GNSS.
  • Practical experience with Linux-based systems.
  • Experience writing and presenting technical content to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prior experience with GNSS timing and UTC traceability.
  • Experience with precision GNSS corrections modeling and application.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently on targeted research projects.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to collaborate.
  • Experience with hardware testing, including field testing and GNSS simulators.
  • Familiarity with project management principles and ability to contribute or collaborate effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Design and conduct live-sky test campaigns showcasing Pulsar capabilities.
  • Assist with time-sensitive, novel LEO-PNT analyses supporting current and future company objectives.
  • Prepare technical resources and materials related to Pulsar-based PNT.
  • Contribute to white papers, internal reports, and technical documentation.
  • Lead detailed analysis of key GNSS research topics.
  • Support occasional rapid-turnaround technical assessments.
