Senior Software Engineer, Core Infra Systems
About The Position
As a Senior Software Engineer on Coinbase’s Core Infra Systems team within the Platform group, you will work across the cloud and networking foundations used by Coinbase engineers to operate reliably at scale. The team owns GCP paved roads, cloud networking, and AWS-centered infrastructure patterns, emphasizing standardization, self-service, and strong default guardrails. You will collaborate with the AWS, GCP, and Networking owners in Core Infra Systems and partner with Compute, Infra Security, Routing, and broader infrastructure stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable infrastructure.
Requirements
- 5+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years building and operating production cloud infrastructure on AWS and/or GCP in networking, compute, or platform engineering.
- Hands-on experience with cloud networking primitives such as VPCs, transit gateways, DNS, and load balancers.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or Pulumi.
- Proficiency in at least one backend language, such as Go or Python, for building platform tooling and automation at scale.
- Demonstrated ability to drive cross-team technical initiatives and partner across infrastructure domains to deliver cohesive, production-ready outcomes.
- Ability to use generative AI responsibly, maintain human oversight, and deliver business-ready outputs that improve workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.
Responsibilities
- Own cross-cutting infrastructure initiatives across the AWS, GCP, and Networking pillars, driving alignment on standards, tooling, and operational patterns.
- Build and maintain self-service tooling and paved-road defaults so product teams can safely provision and operate cloud infrastructure.
- Partner with Compute, Infra Security, and Routing teams to embed security, compliance, and reliability guardrails into infrastructure provisioning.
- Drive infrastructure standardization across Coinbase’s multi-cloud environment, reducing fragmentation and improving consistency in cloud networking, compute, and shared platform primitives.
- Lead technical investigations and operational improvements across infrastructure boundaries, working with stakeholders to resolve systemic issues and scale foundational systems.
