About The Position

Assemble is a seed-stage, mission-driven company focused on creating a future where pay is fair, equitable, consistent, competitive, and explainable. We aim to solve pay equity problems by building simple software tools and educating people and companies on best practices. We have customers, revenue, and capital investment, and we are looking for talented teammates to help us achieve our mission. As a frontend-focused engineer, you will have significant ownership of our product, component library, APIs, and development processes. Given our small team size, engineers are expected to be comfortable working across the entire stack. We utilize Typescript on both the frontend and backend within a single monolithic codebase to facilitate easy contributions across the stack. GraphQL with generated types is used to ensure synchronization between the frontend and backend.

Requirements

4+ years of experience working on modern web frontend code, with some experience in React or a similar component-based framework.
Deep knowledge of frontend development and broad knowledge of end-to-end web development.
Motivation to craft delightful UX and obsess over design details.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, understanding their importance for high-performing technical teams.
Excitement about building a collaborative, high-velocity, intentional, and customer-focused engineering culture.

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with Typescript, CSS frameworks, Node.js, or GraphQL.
Experience working at a startup or building products from the ground up.

Responsibilities

Architect and write high-quality frontend code for our SaaS product, including creating reusable components for our design library, building complex user experiences with minimized state complexity in React, writing Storybook tests to prevent visual regressions, and providing feedback to other engineers.
Occasionally work on GraphQL APIs and server code to deliver features, as all engineers are currently full stack.
Collaborate with product and design teammates to understand customer requirements, shape solutions, and ship iterations on a weekly sprint cadence.
Shape and improve engineering culture, standards, tooling, and processes.
Help build a successful business that does well by doing good.
